Description
History of Kosai Kiln:
- 1870: Founded by Shinsuke Matsubara (1st generation Kosen) in Kaga Hachiman, Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture
- 1885: Received Silver Cup and Merit Award from the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce
- 1920: Moved to Nomachi, Kanazawa-shi and created a new kiln (by 2nd generation Kosen).
- 1923: Made later Emperor Showa a present of an incense burner on his visit to the Kiln.
- 1926: Won the World Expo Grand Prix commemorating the US Independence Centennial
- 1930: Won the World Expo Grand Prix held in Liege, Belgium
- 1935: Named the third generation Kosen.
- 1948: Recognized as a National Designated Ceramic Creator
- 1958: Demonstrated ceramic production on the occasion of the Imperial couple visit to the Kiln (made the couple a present of the tea ceremony bowl).
- 1963: Selected for a prize in the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition
- 1965: Designated as a regular member of the Japan Craft Association
- 1966: Demonstrated ceramic production in the presence of Hitachinomiya, Imperial Prince Masahito and Princess Hanako, the wife of Prince Hitachinomiya (made the couple a present of the tea ceremony bowl)
- 1967: Received the highest award at the 13th Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition
- 1968: Demonstrated ceramic production in the presence of Imperial Highness (now Emperor of Japan) (made his Highness a present of the tea ceremony bowl)
- 1975: Demonstrated ceramic production at the kiln in the presence of Imperial Highness (now Emperor of Japan) (made his Highness a present of the tea ceremony bowl)
- 1988: Named the fourth generation Kosen
- 1990: Held an exhibition for the 120th anniversary of the founding of Kosen Kiln.
- 1995: Became a review committee member of the 17th Japan New Craft Exhibition
- 1996: Designated a regular member of Japan Fine Arts Exhibition
- 2006: Then prime minister Junichiro Koizumi visited the kiln during the Japanese Craftsmanship Event sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs
